Updated March 19, 2018 10:35:13If you’re going to get into the makeup business, you need to know what ingredients are safe and what aren’t.
That’s because a few years ago, when cosmetics companies started adding ingredients like fragrance and mineral oil to their products, many people were skeptical about whether those ingredients were safe.
So it was a little surprising when the FDA issued its final guidelines for cosmetics and personal care products in 2016.
According to the FDA, it decided that cosmetics and products containing fragrance and/or mineral oil “must be approved under a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Food Additive List, a program that has allowed the agency to regulate these ingredients.”
In other words, if a company adds an ingredient that has never been approved before, it has to be approved for use on cosmetics and cosmetics products.
But the FDA didn’t make any recommendations on what to do with that ingredient, nor did it specify what ingredients should be labeled with that label.
The FDA’s final guidance says that cosmetics products with a fragrance and an alcohol-based component are safe to use, and that cosmetics containing both an alcohol and fragrance component should be approved.
But that’s only the beginning.
The agency also suggests that cosmetics with ingredients like hydrogenated oils, propylene glycol, parabens, and other additives may not be approved as cosmetics because those ingredients are not approved as ingredients in any other Food and Drugs Administration (federal agency) product.
As the FDA put it in its guidance, this means that products with those ingredients might not be labeled as cosmetics.
The agency doesn’t have an official list of the ingredients used in cosmetics, so it’s hard to know exactly what the final FDA rule means.
The only other thing that can be applied to the final guidance is that companies should make sure that their ingredients are labeled as ingredients on the ingredients label, not on the label of the product.
The final FDA guidelines say that “the labels should indicate that the product contains ingredients that are either listed in the FDA’s Food Additives List or that are listed on a Food Additivity Index.”
The FDA also says that companies must also be clear about the ingredients they use on their products.
The guidelines don’t make it clear what that means.
They say that companies are “responsible for ensuring that their labels and packaging do not contain false information regarding the safety of their ingredients or their ingredients ingredients alone.”
It also says “that labeling should be clearly indicated on the product’s packaging that the ingredients are from ingredients that have not been approved by the FDA for use in cosmetics.”
But as far as the FDA is concerned, all of these ingredients are still listed on the FDA Food Additiy List.
As of now, the FDA says it doesn’t know whether any of the new makeup brands on the market will be approved by their label makers as cosmetics or as personal care.
